Australia plans to buy the latest Tomahawk cruise missiles from the United States for a total of $985 million. This was reported on March 16 by Defense news, citing the State Department.
It was noted that the deal includes 200 Block V and 20 Block IV missiles, as well as related support.
Australian authorities said they would deploy the Tomahawk the Hobart class destroyers. This would allow them to strike ground targets at long range. Also, missiles in the Block V version can attack moving objects in water and change target selection in flight.
As the publication explains, Tomahawk missiles with a range of about 1.6 thousand km are especially important in the Asia-Pacific region, where China has DF-26 and DF-21 ballistic missiles.
