The decision to move the aircraft was made at the level of state authorities, the Polish President said.
Poland will hand over MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine in the coming days. We are talking about four aircraft. Polish President Andrzej Duda said this at a press conference, Rzeczpospolita reported on Thursday, March 16.
“In the coming days, we will transfer four aircraft to Ukraine in full working order. The rest of the aircraft are being serviced and prepared,” Duda said, without specifying the exact number of MiG- 29 aircraft that Poland will eventually give to Ukraine.
He noted that the decision to move the aircraft was made at the level of state authorities.
“We can say with confidence that today we are literally sending these MiGs to Ukraine. We still have a dozen of these MiGs today. These are the MiGs that we received in the early 1990s,” said the leader of Poland.
He ensured that Poland’s defense capabilities would not suffer. The Polish army will receive the FA-50 from South Korea, the first of which is expected before the end of the year. And then the American F-35 fighters of the fifth generation will be received.
It was previously reported that Poland could supply MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine in the next four to six weeks. In total, the country has 28 aircraft of this type.
Slovakia will receive compensation for the transfer of MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine
