The invaders officially recognized the destruction of the city of Popasna in the Luhansk region.
Before the start of the Great War of Muscovy against the Ukrainians, 20 thousand people lived in Popasna.
Previously, the Russians declared the inexpediency of restoring the city, since it was completely destroyed.
In the so-called LPR, “laws” “On the administrative-territorial structure” and “On the formation of urban and municipal districts on the territory of the LPR” were put into effect. In particular, 11 urban and 17 municipal districts (districts) have been adopted. Popasna is not on any of the lists,” the Luhansk OVA notes.
The battles for Popasna are military actions for control over the city of Popasna and the Alchevsk-Kadiev agglomeration in the Lugansk region of Ukraine, which lasted from 2014 to June 2022.
The Alchevsko-Kadievskaya agglomeration includes a number of cities: Kadievka, Pervomaisk, Golubovka (formerly Kirovsk), Bryanka, Alchevsk, which have been controlled by Russian forces since 2014.
Protracted positional fighting in eastern Ukraine went from 2014 until a full-scale Russian invasion in 2022. Ukrainian troops maintained a number of settlements around the agglomeration – the city of Popasnaya and the village of Troitskoye in the west, the village of Novotoshkovskoye and the cities of Gornoye and Zolote in the north. On May 8, 2022, Ukrainian troops had to withdraw from Popasna to prepared positions, the city was under Russian occupation.
