Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawieckisaid on Tuesday that Warsaw “could send within four or six weeks” an unspecified number MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine.

The announcement came a week after Polish President Andrzej Duda said in a press interview in Abu Dhabi that Poland “ready” to deliver “the remaining quantity (aircraft) MiG-29 that we serve in the Air Force.

In connection with these words, the head of the Office of the President of Poland, Pavel Schrot, specified in Warsaw that the transfer of Polish combat aircraft would take place only within the framework of the international coalition.

In addition, Schroth indicated that this would not be a “large number” of devices, not even comparable to the tanks recently delivered to Kyiv.

The Polish Air Force maintains 29 aircraft. MiG 29Soviet-made, six of which are double, adapted for advanced training flights.

They are all based in Malbork (north), close to the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad.

The Polish Air Force plans to replace these aircraft with 50 FA-50s purchased last year from South Korea, the first of which was built a few days ago.

It is estimated that at least ten of these MiG-29s, whose production and entry into service began in the 1980s, were destroyed in the early days of the war with Russia.

To satisfy the requests of the President of Ukraine, Vladimir ZelenskyHaving received advanced combat aircraft, Poland offered last March to transfer its MiG-29s to the NATO base in Ramstein, Germany, to “make them available to the United States” for delivery by that country to Ukraine. written off by Washington.
