The White House spokesman said the United States will continue to do what is necessary to ensure national security interests.
White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby said the United States will not stop flying over the Black Sea after a Russian fighter jet and an American drone collided there. This was reported by CNN.
He noted that if the incident is a signal to the Russians that they want to prevent the US from flying in international airspace over the Black Sea, then such a move will fail.
“We will continue to fly and operate in international airspace over international waters. The Black Sea does not belong to any country. And we will continue to do what is necessary to ensure our national security interests in this part of the world,” Kirby said.
According to him, the presence of American drones in the Black Sea is not new.
“We’ve been flying over this airspace for a year now. We don’t need to go through any kind of registration with the Russians before flying in international airspace,” said the National Security Council’s strategic communications coordinator at the White House.
It will be remembered that today, March 14, the US European Command reported that a Russian aircraft collided with an American drone in the Black Sea.
The Russian Defense Ministry said its Su-27 fighters had nothing to do with the downing of the American MQ-9 Reaper drone in the Black Sea. They also reported that he approached the Crimea and flew with violations.
