The Holy Dormition Monastery of the UOC-MP must leave the territory of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra on March 29.
The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine intends to return the property of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra to state use, however, they will not use violence against the monks who refuse to leave the territory of the Lavra. At the same time, law enforcement officers will “encourage” them to leave the territory. This was announced on Tuesday, March 14, during the telethon of the Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko.
He also noted that the leaders of the UOC-MP were obliged to leave the Lavra in the first place.
“If someone should leave the front, in my opinion, then it is the leaders who have been illegally building on the territory of the UNESCO site for many years – Metropolitans Pavel, Anthony, the Synodal Administration, the Administration of the UOC -MP … And then you can talk about everything,” said Tkachenko.
Commenting on the statement of Metropolitan Pavel, who intends to “defend his rights to the end” and not release the territory of the Lavra, and also announced “the apocalypse that will begin in Ukraine”, Tkachenko said that “this character” has been the hero of many reports for many years and spoke during this time of various things.
“You need to listen to his words a little – this is the first thing. And secondly, I am convinced that the situation will change dramatically when these citizens leave the territory of the Lavra. I think that the joint work of the specialist and law enforcement officials will encourage such a decision,” said the head of the Ministry of Culture.
He also added that UOC-MP representatives “always have a choice”
Last week it became known that the monks of the UOC-MP were ordered to leave the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra until March 29. And the day before, the Ministry of Culture warned the UOC-MP against stealing relics from the Lavra, which threatens criminal liability.
The Kremlin expressed anger at the request for UOC monks to leave the Lavra in Kyiv.
