The field discovery by Equinor is the eighth in a row since 2019. The previous one was discovered in February.
A new hydrocarbon field on the continental shelf near the large Troll field has been discovered by Norwegian oil and gas company Equinor. This is what the company’s press service said on Tuesday, March 14.
The new deposit is named Heisenberg. Experts believe that the amount of hydrocarbons there ranges from 24 to 84 million barrels of oil equivalent, and there is more oil in the field than gas. An appraisal well must be drilled to accurately determine volumes and recoveries. These works will start in 2024.
The field is of commercial interest because it can be connected to the existing infrastructure of the Troll field.
Heisenberg is Equinor’s eighth discovery in this area of the North Sea since 2019. In February of this year, another deposit was found there, named Revere Sør.
Note that Norway is now one of the main exporters of oil and gas in Europe. The country has increased its hydrocarbon production amid sanctions against Russia for an all-out invasion of Ukraine.
Equinor has become the largest gas supplier in the European Union after significant cuts in Gazprom’s supplies.
Equinor in January of this year received 26 new licenses for the extraction of energy resources on the continental shelf from the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.
In addition, it is reported that the Norwegian research team has discovered significant reserves of metals and minerals on the continental shelf of their country.
