Polish General Waldemar Skrzypczak changed his mind about the number of tanks needed for the Ukrainian counteroffensive.
In his opinion, the West must decide whether it wants Ukraine to win this year without dragging out the war for a long time. If yes, then for this tanks need to be provided to Kyiv not in the same way as now, “by the drop method – one battalion of modern tanks for six months.”
If earlier Skshipchak, who himself is a professional tanker, spoke of a “tank fist” of 300-400 vehicles, now we are talking about at least 400-500 Western tanks.
One battalion of Leopard 2 tanks is not enough. An effective counteroffensive requires 16-20 battalions of modern tanks. It is necessary to have a strong armored fist that can break through the defense and then pursue the retreat of the Russians,” the general told Ukrinform.
Skshipchak urged the West to speed up the delivery of all modern tanks in Kyiv, such as Leopard, Abrams and Challenger, so that the war ends this year.
