Former President Donald Trump is releasing his second book since leaving the White House in disgrace, a $99 edition reprinting private letters sent to him by celebrities and politicians over the past 40 years.
“Letters to Trump” will feature correspondence with the Republican-branded reality TV personality from former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon; Hillary Clinton, Trump’s Democratic rival in 2016; chat show legend Oprah Winfrey; Princess Diana; Russian President Vladimir Putin; the former president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro; North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un and others.
Trump’s comment appears next to each note.
The publication has raised questions about who owns the copyright to the letters and whether its publisher Winning Team Publishing, created by Trump’s eldest son Donald Trump Jr., has permission to reprint them.
A spokesman for Winning Team Publishing told Newsweek on Thursday that there were no “copyright issues” with the letters sent by those in public office at the time. They had “actual or implied consent” to the publication of those privately written letters, the representative added.
According to Axios, Winfrey wrote in her letter that she was “in tears” over Trump’s compliment in a circa-2000 book about wanting her or “someone like her” as a running mate if he ran for the White House . “It’s a shame I wasn’t running for office,” he said. “What a team!”
“Unfortunately, once I announced the presidency, he never spoke to me again,” Trump commented in that voice.
The book will be released on April 25 and follows the 2021 photo book “Our Journey Together,” which featured images from Trump’s one-term tenure.
An “original, signed edition” of the new book is being advertised for $399.
