The car could not be released due to the economic crisis of the 90s. Its design had only started a few years before.
In the late 80s of the last century, the Zaporozhye Automobile Plant planned the further development of Tavria. Engineers developed the second generation of the car and even released several prototypes of the model. Their photos are published on the Wheelsage website.
The new Tavria model was called ZAZ-1106. Prototypes included three-door and five-door hatchbacks and a sedan.
The second generation featured an elegant, streamlined design. The cars also had two-piece side windows.
Production was supposed to start in the 90s based on the chassis and engine of the standard Tavria ZAZ-1102 to speed up the car’s development.
However, the economic crisis of the 1990s prevented these plans from being realized. And despite the fact that the ZAZ-1102 was in production until 2011, the ZAZ-1106 was preserved only in a prototype in the museum of the factory.
