The massive lion notices a young hyena wandering the street alone. Sip.

A large lion’s patience paid off after he waited for a hyena cub to walk towards him in South Africa. (Potentially disturbing video below.)

Footage released on wildlife platform Latest Sightings on Wednesday showed a young hyena walking along the road as the lion watched from the bush.

The big cat bided its time before sprinting and pouncing on the unsuspecting prey from an embankment. The edited clip shows the lion getting away with its kill and then leaving it behind.

“Despite our initial impulse to intervene, we knew that interfering would disrupt the natural balance of the environment. So we watched with heavy hearts,” Tanisha Rach, a 20-year-old student who shared the video from Kruger National Park, told Latest Sightings.

Some YouTube viewers have questioned why a young hyena is alone, but a spokesperson for the latest sightings told HuffPost that the cub was likely exploring the area as it does as it ages, and it’s possible that site to have been nearby.
