Russian market participants associate these events with the recent visit to Turkey by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
Turkey suddenly started blocking the clearance of sanctioned goods to Russia. Transit of “parallel import” products stopped. This was reported by a Russian pro-government publication Kommersant on Thursday, March 9th.
Market participants are urgently looking for alternative ways to import sanctioned goods into the Russian Federation.
“Even yesterday we started receiving messages from agents who previously agreed that the flight bookings were canceled. They said that the reason was that the cargo transiting for Turkey was no longer sent to Russia. Last night started we receive letters that the Turkish customs system blocks the transit clearance of goods of non-Turkish origin. This morning they tried to process again, but the system actually blocks everything,” complained Georgy Vlastopulo, CEO of one of the companies of Russian logistics.
Some media interlocutors linked the stoppage of transit of sanctioned cargoes to the recent visit of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to Turkey.
The publication added that the United Arab Emirates, which supplies electronics to Russia, is also under pressure.
Recall that the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, Binance, closed the possibility for Russian citizens to buy and sell dollars and euros through its p2p service.
