Minsk did not recognize the peninsula as Russian, but this did not prevent the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee from concluding agreements with it.
The Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Vitebsk region of Belarus Alexander Subbotin, during a working visit to Moscow, signed a cooperation agreement with the occupying “authorities” of Crimea, which Minsk recognizes as the territory of Ukraine. This was announced on Thursday, March 9, by the Belarusian edition of Zerkalo, which positions itself as an opposition.
“The parties agreed to the creation of working bodies through the executive branch, and the preparation of a plan for the implementation of the Agreement for 2023-2025 was also agreed,” the regional executive committee said in a statement. .
In turn, the occupying “authorities” of Crimea claim that the agreement provides for trade and economic cooperation in the Vitebsk region. The invaders also invited Belarusian businesses to work on the annexed Ukrainian peninsula.
The publication states that in May 2022, the head of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee expressed his readiness “to continue full cooperation with Crimea in all areas, taking into account historically established relations, as well as the new opportunities that are opening up in the current phase of the region’s development.”
It should be noted that the ruling regime of Belarus does not officially recognize Crimea as Russian, but they make statements about “actual” recognition.
Recall that since the morning of March 9, the activity of Russian helicopters was recorded in Belarus, some of which arrived closer to the borders of Ukraine.
Let’s add that on March 7, Alexander Lukashenko first confirmed an explosion at Machulishchi airport near Minsk, where a Russian A-50 aircraft was destroyed.
Lukashenka also used profanity against the President of Ukraine in connection with the Machulishchi incident.
