Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a violation of the UN Charter and international law, said António Guterres.
The ultimate goal of the United Nations in the context of the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine is to achieve a just peace in accordance with the UN Charter and international law. This was announced on Wednesday, March 8, by UN Secretary-General António Guterres at a joint briefing with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.
“The position of the UN is absolutely clear – the aggression of Russia in Ukraine is a violation of the UN Charter and international law. The sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine must be preserved in accordance with internationally recognized border of Ukraine. Our ultimate goal is also clear – a just world in accordance with the UN Charter and international law and the resolution of the General Assembly on the occasion of the anniversary of the start of the war,” said Guterres.
He assured that until this is achieved, the UN will continue to work to alleviate the suffering of the people of Ukraine and reduce the global consequences of the war.
Guterres expressed his solidarity with the victims of war – refugees, those who lost loved ones and died.
It was previously reported that the UN Secretary General reacted to the video of the execution of a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by Russian aggressors, which was made public this week.
