The US military is considering installing Western air-to-air missiles on Ukrainian MiGs.
This applies to AIM-120 medium-range missiles. These munitions are designed to be launched from Western fighters such as the American F-16. If the integration succeeds, it will be the first time that overseas allies will provide the ability to launch air-to-air missiles from aircraft. This was reported by Politico, citing a source.
It is noted that the integration process is associated with difficulties, since the missile must not only be installed on the aircraft, but also talk to the aircraft’s radar. The main problem is that American and Soviet aircraft are too different.
Recall that in early March, Ukrainian pilots arrived in the United States to undergo an assessment of their skills in piloting combat aircraft, including F-16 fighters. Pilots of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will use a simulator that can simulate flights of different types of aircraft.
