Tehran has authorized the agency to proceed with additional monitoring and verification measures at its nuclear facilities.
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, said that Tehran has agreed to move the agency to further monitoring measures and checks on the Iranian nuclear facility, TASS reports.
“I note Iran’s agreement to allow the agency to proceed with additional monitoring and verification measures necessary for the IAEA to fulfill its mission,” he said on Monday, March 6, ahead of a meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said the IAEA director general’s visit to Tehran opened a new chapter in bilateral cooperation between Iran and the agency.
Iran has reportedly stockpiled uranium enriched to 84% purity, just 6% below the level required to build a nuclear weapon.
