The container ship Sparta IV carried a cargo of humanitarian aid to Syria, and then picked up military cargo from a Russian naval base, to be unloaded in Novorossiysk.
The Russian cargo ship Sparta IV, which is under US sanctions, crossed the Bosphorus and entered the Black Sea, bound for Syria to the port of Novorossiysk. Naval News reported it.
As noted by the Bosphorus Observer group and defense expert Yoruk Isik, Russia uses merchant ships to deliver military supplies.
It is reported that the Russian container ship Sparta IV brought a shipment of humanitarian aid to Syria for earthquake victims, and then picked up military cargo from the Russian naval base, which will be released in Novorossiysk.
The ship sailed up the Bosphorus, accompanied by ships of the Russian Navy, and crossed the strait at night. Before entering the Bosphorus on March 1, 2023, the ship was escorted by the Russian Navy missile corvette Steregushchiy.
It will be recalled that in August 2022, the Russian S-300 air defense missiles were also loaded in Tartus in Syria, and delivered to Novorossiysk.
This is not the first shipment of Russian weapons across the Bosphorus. According to Bloomberg, the Sparta II merchant ship delivered Russian military cargo from Syria to Novorossiysk at the end of July.
