The army leadership called for the continuation of the defensive operation in Bakhmut, the Office of the President said.
President Volodymyr Zelensky held a regular meeting of the Headquarters of the Supreme Commander, where the main issue was the situation in the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. This was reported by the press service of the head of state on Monday, March 6.
Thus, assessing the course of the defensive operation, Zelensky asked the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny and the commander of the operational-strategic grouping of the troops of Khortytsya Alexander Syrsky about further actions in the direction of Bakhmut . In turn, the generals spoke in favor of continuing the defensive operation and further strengthening the Ukrainian positions in Bakhmut.
The commanders of other operational-strategic groupings of troops also reported on the situation in the main directions of the front.
In addition, the meeting discussed the supply of weapons and equipment and their distribution in operational areas.
Earlier, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said that Ukrainian forces are likely to conduct a limited tactical withdrawal of troops from Bakhmut. However, it is still too early to make an assessment of Ukraine’s intentions to leave the city entirely.
It was also reported that the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, assessed the possible downfall of Bakhmut.
