Olaf Scholz considers it necessary that Vladimir Putin understand that he will not succeed in Ukraine.
The German chancellor gave an interview to the American television channel CNN. BILD selected the main theses from it. According to Scholz, peace talks to end the war in Ukraine will begin only after Russian President Vladimir Putin realizes that he has no chance of winning.
In my opinion, it is necessary that the paths understand that with this invasion and its imperialist aggression it will not succeed – that it must withdraw its troops. This is the basis for negotiations,” Scholz said.
The event is ready to provide security guarantees to Ukraine, but they will be valid only after the war is over.
We said [Україні]that it can become a member of the European Union. They are working to make progress on all the criteria that are important for this. I think they know that we are ready to give certain security guarantees for the country when peacetime comes, but it has not yet come,” Scholz said.
The Ukrainian side is considering the possibility of peace talks.
If you look at the proposals of the Ukrainians, it is easy to understand that they are ready for peace. Something must be done. It should make the path, Scholz believes.
At the same time, according to him, the West will not decide on Ukraine the issue of resolving the conflict.
Germany easily survived the rejection of Russian energy. The deficit, which some analysts predicted, did not happen – now the FRG is no longer dependent on the supply of Russian gas, oil and coal.
Germany is determined to increase the production of basic types of weapons and ammunition on an ongoing basis, the chancellor said.
Europe, like the United States, urges China not to supply Russia with weapons. If the requests in the PRC are not heard, there will be “consequences”.
