The ship carrying 2.4 tons of cocaine was detained by police from the US and Australia. The operation continued for several months.
Off the coast of South America, law enforcement officers intercepted a ship carrying the largest shipment of drugs in history. 2.4 tons of cocaine were found on the ship, SCMP reports.
It was noted that such a shipment of drugs on the black market in Australia, where the ship was headed, is worth more than 677 million dollars. Its value is equivalent to half of the annual cocaine consumption in this country.
The arrest was carried out by law enforcement officers from the United States and Australia. The special operation has been going on since November 2022. To successfully complete it, they had to replace the batch of cocaine with a fake one and let the loaded ship go to its destination.
In total, 12 drug traffickers belonging to an international group linked to the Mexican drug cartel were detained.
