The high threat of using new bombs lies in the fact that they are gliding, equipped with a navigation system and have a warhead weighing 1010 kg, designed to destroy highly protected objects.
For the first time, Russian troops used a UPAB-1500V guided glide bomb (index K029B) weighing 1,500 kg against Ukraine for the first time. On Saturday, March 4, according to Defense Express, citing its own sources.
It was noted that the first use of this type of ammunition was recorded a few weeks ago against one of the objects in the Chernihiv region. According to the publication, in one of the wreckage there are remains of markings that exactly match the UPAB-1500V.
This gliding munition was first presented in the export version with the K029BE index in 2019 by the developer of the GNPP Region, which is part of the Tactical Missiles Corporation at the MAKS exhibition.
At the same time, it is reported that this bomb has already been tested, put into service with the Russian Aerospace Forces and received the first export orders.
“The high threat of using the UPAB-1500V lies in the fact that it belongs to the gliders, equipped with an inertial and satellite navigation system and has a warhead weighing 1010 kg, designed to destroy objects highly protected. It is declared that the bomb can be dropped 40 km from the target, where the carrier must rise to a height of 14 km,” the newspaper wrote.
In addition, the GNPP Region presented the smaller caliber ammunition UPAB-500V (index K08B), which is a reduced copy of the UPAB-1500V and weighs 505 kg, of which 390 kg fell on the warhead while keeping the rest more features.
At the same time, the publication notes that the use of planning bombs by the Russian Federation remains isolated phenomena. Ensuring a high range requires flying at a great height, which simplifies the detection of targets and the ability to destroy the carrier.
Earlier it was reported that Ukraine will receive a long-range GPS-guided “smart bomb” from the United States.
