In the Sumy region, the SBU exposed the rector of one of the churches of the UOC-MP in the Shostka district while collecting intelligence for the FSB on the deployment of the Defense Forces in the region.
This was announced today, March 3, by the press center of the SBU.
According to the intelligence service, the perpetrator, first of all, tried to identify the locations of command posts and artillery units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. To this end, he traveled around the border area and secretly carried out photo and video recording of Ukrainian objects.
The invaders needed intelligence information to conduct targeted missile and massive artillery strikes on the region, as well as to carry out sabotage attacks. In addition, the Russian agent collected personal data of the heads of local authorities and law enforcement officers, the SBU notes.
The attacker was detained while trying to transfer classified information about officials of local military administrations to the aggressor.
According to the investigation, the archpriest was recruited by a staff member of the FSB department for the Bryansk region in September last year. He came to the attention of the Russian special services because of his pro-Kremlin views, which were repeatedly made public among those around him, the SBU notes.
To communicate with the aggressor, he used anonymous messengers, and transmitted the collected information in the form of text messages and media files with reference to the location.
During searches at his address and in the temple, law enforcement officers found:
- mobile phones red-handed with the FSB;
- pro-Russian literature
The detainee was informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code (high treason committed under martial law). By the decision of the court, a measure of restraint in the form of detention was chosen for him.
