In one of the areas where the tasks were carried out, servicemen of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine shot down a secret Russian reconnaissance unmanned aerial system Kartograf.
According to an officer of the reconnaissance unit of the Airborne Assault Forces, this model of the unmanned complex was developed for the needs of the FSB of the Russian Federation and was used by the aggressor country when conducting military operations in important areas.
On account of the units of the Ukrainian landing force, there are already more than fifty downed Russian UAVs of various types.
Cartographer is part of the Ptero family of multi-purpose unmanned systems manufactured by the company of the same name. On July 31, one of these UAF drones was shot down by the Buk-M1 anti-aircraft missile system. From the beginning of the war in 2014 to this day, up to ten cases of defeat of the Ptero UAV have been recorded, writes Focus.
The production of Ptero-class drones began in 2010 by the Russian company AFM-Servers, and later the project was spun off into a separate enterprise.
Such UAVs functionally and externally resemble the Orlan-10 model, but differ in some features. Ptero drones are high-wing, low-profile propellers powered by internal combustion engines. They are equipped with cameras with a resolution of 80 MP and thermal imagers. Operators can control the machines using proprietary PteRoBot software.
According to Militarny, the Cartographer model is not used by the Russian Ministry of Defense, but by another agency, possibly the FSB. The individual components of the UAV, including the optical-electronic system, are produced by a Russian company that helps the Special Technology Center create Orlans and is under US sanctions.
The detailed characteristics of this UAV cartographer are kept secret.
