The White House will expand the staff of prosecutors investigating violations of sanctions and export controls against the Russian Federation.
US President Joseph Biden’s administration will expand the staff of federal prosecutors investigating sanctions and export control violations against the Russian Federation. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing the words of Assistant US Attorney General Matt Olsen.
He noted that the Ministry of Justice has hired 25 more prosecutors in the department of counterintelligence and export control.
They will work with companies to investigate Russian sanctions and export control evasion, and file criminal charges against companies if they commit violations, he said.
Since 2022, after the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine, the United States and its Western allies have imposed several international trade and financial restrictions on Russia.
Moscow has lured public and private companies from Iran, China and Turkey to avoid sanctions. The West believes this is why it continues to import computer chips and radar equipment that are vital for its defense industry.
The Biden administration, to counter such measures by the Russian Federation, issued a third set of recommendations for the private sector, designed to warn companies about the legal risks of violating sanctions and controls to export.
As previously reported, after the adoption of the 10th package of sanctions against Russia, the EU authorities plan to focus on the implementation of existing restrictions. But the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has called for tougher sanctions as the war drags on.
