Haynes noted that Putin could take such a step to free up the resources needed to win the war against Ukraine.

As the fighting in Ukraine continues, Russian President Vladimir Putin could use more violent measures, including the imposition of martial law on the country. This was said by the head of US National Intelligence Avril Haynes at a Senate hearing.

“The current trend increases the likelihood that President Putin will use more violent means, including the imposition of martial law, reorienting industrial production, or potentially escalating the conflict,” he said.

Haynes noted that Putin could take such a step to free up the resources needed to win the war against Ukraine.

It will be recalled that US intelligence also reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to increase the land corridor in Transnistria occupied by Russia, as well as gain control of the Ukrainian coast of the Black Sea.
