LONDON (AP) – Unprecedented domestic films from Queen Elizabeth II’s personal archive – including footage of the monarch as a young mother and her beam in an engagement ring – will be shown in a new documentary, BBC Sunday said. .
The Queen has given the broadcaster unprecedented access to hundreds of homemade films she, her parents and her late husband, Prince Philip, have made as part of her upcoming 70th Platinum Jubilee anniversary.
The videos depict the queen’s life from childhood in a carriage in 1953 until her coronation.
A clip captures Philip’s first extended visit to Balmoral Castle in Scotland in 1946, before his relationship with Elizabeth was released. The footage shows the dazzling Princess Elizabeth showing off her engagement ring in front of the camera.
Philip and Elizabeth married in November 1947 and remained married for 73 years, until Philip’s death in April, a few months before his 100th birthday.
Simon Young, the BBC’s historical editor, said the broadcaster was honored to have access to the Queen’s personal collection of films.
“This documentary is an extraordinary examination of the deep personal side of the royal family, which is rarely seen, and it is very good to share it with the country on its platinum anniversary,” he said.
Elizabeth: The Invisible Queen will be released in the UK on 29 May, a week before the national celebration to mark the 70th anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne.
