Alexander Rodnyansky said the military is now deciding whether the withdrawal of troops from the settlement is necessary.
Ukrainian forces, which have been defending Bakhmut for more than seven months, can “strategically retreat” if necessary. This is what Advisor to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky Oleksandr Rodnyansky said in an interview with CNN on Tuesday, February 28,
“Russia is trying to surround him (Bakhmut – ed.) now, and they are using their best Wagner troops, probably the most trained and experienced for this,” he said.
According to him, the Ukrainian military, “obviously, is going to weigh all options.”
“Right now they hold the city, but if necessary, they will strategically retreat – because we will not sacrifice all our people just like that,” he explained.
Rodnyansky, when asked about the timing, noted that the military is deciding whether the withdrawal of troops is necessary.
The adviser added that the area west of Bakhmut has been fortified.
“If we retreat, it doesn’t mean that the Russians will be able to advance so quickly afterwards… Make no mistake, our counter-offensives are about to happen,” he added.
Recall, Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said that the situation in Bakhmut is difficult, reinforcements have been sent there.
We also add that the Armed Forces of Ukraine called the uniqueness of the Russian offensive in Bakhmut.
