Ukraine has weathered the Russian energy scare and managed to provide heat to citizens during the winter in the face of continued shelling. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
“Today is the last day of winter, a month and a half left before the end of the heating season. We can confidently say that we have overcome the most difficult period. We have overcome the fear of Russian energy and provided heat to homes of Ukrainians,” the prime minister said.
Shmygal believes that Ukraine has won not only the battle for heat, but also the battle for light: for 17 days in a row there has been no shortage of electricity in the energy network and no shortage is expected nearby that future (assuming no massive enemy attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure).
The prime minister thanked power engineers and thermal workers for their selfless work, the air defense forces for their professionalism, Ukraine’s partners for their support, and Ukrainians for their stability and economy.
“We will get stronger. We will not only restore what was lost, but modernize, decentralize and secure our energy system. This work is ongoing and will be accelerated,” said Shmyhal.
Earlier, Shmyhal said that Ukraine spends almost the entire budget on the army.
