Scientists do not exclude the possibility that the baby was simply left without a mother and she “adopted” her.

Off the coast of western Iceland, scientists noticed that a female killer whale named Sedis was swimming in the area with a calf. At the same time, the researchers were sure that he had no children of his own. Science Alert writes about it.

It is assumed that Sedis kidnapped the cub because he did not have one of his own. At the same time, scientists do not exclude the possibility that the baby was simply left without a mother and Sedis “adopted” him.

The study’s lead author, Marie Mruszczok, observed Sedis’ behavior and found that the female was taking care of the small pilot whale. However, he looked very tired. Maybe because the killer whale couldn’t feed him.

Scientists have also noticed that killer whales and pilot whales in the wild have similar family structures. This may partially explain their relationship.

We remind you, earlier on the Network there was a video with killer whales, released from the “whale prison”.
