The new An-225 will be built on the basis of the unfinished twin brother Mriya. The aircraft will be stronger and lighter.
State business aircraft designers Antonov is working on creating a new Mriya aircraft. Currently, the dismantling of the fuselage of the destroyed aircraft continues, General Designer Vladislav Vlasik told TSN.
According to him, experts are looking for remaining parts and structural elements to use them in the new aircraft.
The new An-225, which will be built on the basis of the unfinished twin brother Mriya, is almost indistinguishable from the destroyed Mriya, but inside it is a new aircraft with the most modern equipment.
The new Mriya will be stronger, lighter than the previous aircraft by at least 10 tons. The ship can carry more cargo and fly longer and farther.
“Now the design phase is underway, a preliminary technical view of the updated aircraft has been formed. We understand that the An-225 aircraft must be modernized, that is, its restoration to state where it is inappropriate and inappropriate,” Vlasik said.
It will be very expensive to rebuild the An-225, but international donors are ready to provide funds.
“The restoration of Mriya is the restoration of the country. As soon as Mriya is rebuilt, we can say that the Ukrainian aviation industry and the capacity of Ukraine in general have been rebuilt,” the general designer stressed.
Recall that on February 27, 2022, as a result of an air attack by Russian troops on the territory of the Gostomel airport, the An-225 Mriya was set on fire.
The SBU is investigating the circumstances surrounding the destruction of the An-225 Mriya aircraft. It was established that the GP officers Antonov did not take proper steps to maintain the aircraft.
