Last year, the German military handed over 14 Krauss-Maffei Wegmann self-propelled howitzers to Kyiv.
Germany expects to sign contracts for the completion of German troops with howitzers instead of those delivered by Berlin to Ukraine last year several months earlier than planned. This is what German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said in an interview with ARD.
“If everything goes well, the contracts for the new howitzers will be signed at the end of next month,” he said.
It was noted that last year the German military handed over 14 Krauss-Maffei Wegmann self-propelled howitzers to Kyiv.
According to a defense source, former German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht plans to submit an order for new howitzers for parliamentary approval in mid-2023.
Pistorius also confirmed that the Bundeswehr needs more funding than ever. The minister wants to significantly increase the country’s defense budget and is asking for an additional 10 billion euros from the government for the Bundeswehr.
Recall that Germany has increased the number of planned deliveries of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
In addition, Germany began production of the RCH-155 self-propelled gun for Ukraine.
It was also reported that Germany handed over layers and bridge trucks to the Ukrainian military.
