CIA director William Burns on Sunday confirmed that the US has evidence that China is considering sending weapons to Russia for the war in Ukraine, but noted that Beijing has not yet made a final decision and has not made any arms shipments.
Burns made the claims in a CBS interview aired this Sunday, a week after US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken accused China consider sending weapons to Russiawhich was the first such accusation.
Blinken’s message revealed today by the director INCwas intended to dissuade Beijing and show that Washington is aware of its plans.

“Secretary Blinken and US President Joe Biden felt it was important to make it clear that there would be consequences if Beijing sent military assistance to Moscow,” Burns explained.
For now, Burns said, the United States has information that makes it “very certain” that the Chinese government is considering sending weapons to China. Russiabut has not yet made a final decision and has not carried out any transfer of military assistance.
China’s ambiguous position
Since the beginning of the war China takes an ambiguous position: avoids criticism Russia, whom he considers his strategic partner; but he avoids providing military assistance because one of his main foreign policy principles is respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
February 24, one year after the start of the war, China He presented a document in which he explained in twelve points his “position on a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine” and in which he stressed the need for dialogue.
China denies any intention to send weapons to Russia; but if he did, he would change the position he has been trying to maintain in the conflict up until now.
According to the United States, Russia it has already purchased weapons from Iran and North Korea for the war in Ukraine.
