The first plane with Ukrainian refugees, chartered by the Canadian government, arrived in the capital of the Canadian provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador – the city of St. Petersburg. This was reported by CBC News.
The other day, the plane took off from the Polish city of Katowice and landed in St. Petersburg. John’s International Airport around 19:00 local time.
Canadian Prime Minister Andrew Fury said there were 166 refugees on board, including 55 children.
Provincial Immigration Minister Jerry Byrne said the flight was the first government-chartered plane to bring Ukrainian refugees to Canada, even though thousands have landed on Canadian soil since the Russian invasion.
More than 19,000 Ukrainians arrived in the country this year, according to the Canadian Border Service. Since mid -March, the government has approved more than 90,000 temporary visa applications.
