Zelensky is convinced that Russia will continue to do “things” about unrecognized Transnistria.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia may start attacking other countries because Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin needs to show victory. He said this in a press conference on February 24.
“I believe that it is possible, and it can happen. I can explain. President Putin needs to show success and victory. Luck on the battlefield in Ukraine will not happen, there will not be a massive revenge, and at least we will fight. .. Therefore, he needs to show success. Everyone understands that he can be where there is a weak spot,” Zelensky said.
The President added that potential targets for Russia could be countries that were previously under the influence of Moscow during the Soviet era, or states with internal conflicts, where there are separate institutions.
Zelensky cited Moldova as an example. He remembers that the intelligence of Ukraine intercepted a document about the plans of the Russian Federation to change the power there, it was given to President Maia Sandu.
“Now imagine how they can do this (change power in Moldova – ed.)? How? Where are their borders with Moldova? I don’t see them. That is, there must be a landing. And where is it? Transnistria or a -attack in Chisinau. They can do and develop this direction,” said the president.

They clearly understand that we respect the territorial integrity of Moldova and we believe that the territory of Transnistria is the territory of the independent state of Moldova, and they continue to provoke. Since the beginning of the war, there have been shots in our direction from the territory of Transnistria. so that Moldova thinks about it and thinks about how to solve this issue, – said the President of Ukraine.
