Since February 24, 2022, the army of the Russian Federation has destroyed more than 81,000 civilian infrastructure facilities in Ukraine.
Enemy missiles, drones and shells have destroyed more than 62,000 residential buildings. And 77% of Russian strikes between October 2022 and February 2023 were on critical infrastructure. On February 22, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin wrote about this on Facebook.
The Prosecutor General is confident that the enemy, shelling peaceful infrastructure, is acting deliberately. The environment also suffers from Russian strikes. Experts have calculated that the occupiers have caused damage in the amount of more than $46 billion, and the consequences of Russian aggression in Europe will be experienced for decades to come.
During the full-scale war, the invaders committed more than 68,000 war crimes. Law enforcement officers registered 952 cases of the use of prohibited cluster mines, chemical, cluster and incendiary munitions. The Russians killed 9,655 civilians, 461 children became victims of aggression.
According to the Prosecutor General, since February 24, 2022, 915 people involved in Russian crimes have already been declared suspected. 26 were convicted, 11 of them received sentences in absentia.
I want to explain the purpose of the procedure. Even if we cannot arrest the perpetrator now, the Ukrainian court’s verdict in absentia opens the prospect of being searched and detained in case of any attempt to leave Russia. We also do not rule out that the post-war Russian authorities will cooperate with international justice and extradite criminals,” Kostin emphasized.
He also added that the prosecutor’s office is considering 16,800 crimes related to encroachment on the foundations of security. These cases concern traitors to the state and collaborators. Suspicion of 2,932 attackers has already been announced, 489 have received sentences. Among the traitors, in particular, people’s deputy, 12 deputies of local councils and mayors, 115 law enforcement officers.
Recall that in February, US Vice President Kamala Harris at the Munich Security Conference said that the US government had officially established that Russia had committed crimes against humanity after the start of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
