New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) said Americans are “moving on” from Donald Trump during an interview with Fox News.
“My message to President Trump is: Thank you for your service. But we’re moving forward,” he said Tuesday on “Special Report.” “Americans don’t just settle down, do they? We will never say, “The best opportunity for tomorrow’s leadership is yesterday’s leadership.” We want the next generation.”
“I don’t think anything will increase his poll numbers,” Sununu added. “And as this race heats up and people start paying attention, there’s going to be a lot of other options on the table.”
Sununu, a potential 2024 candidate, declined to say whether he would run for president.
He made similar comments earlier this month, telling MSNBC that Trump would not be the Republican Party nominee. However, he has hinted that he will still vote for Trump if he wins the nomination.
So far, only two Republicans have announced their candidacy for the 2024 race. Trump ran in November, and Nikki Haley, the former US ambassador to the UN, announced her candidacy earlier this month. That list is expected to grow in the coming months, with potential candidates including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former Vice President Mike Pence.
