The Kremlin-controlled regime of Alexander Lukashenko announced its intention to significantly increase the number of the so-called “people’s militia”. The head of the Ministry of Defense of Belarus, Viktor Khrenin, said that 100-150 thousand Belarusians could join the ranks of the “militia”.
His statement was quoted by the state propaganda agency of Belarus “Belta”.
We have enough mobilization resources, which are registered with our military commissariats. We have checked and see that not all of them will be involved in the mobilization plan. These are, first of all, those people who are already trained and know how to use weapons. But we do not rule out that those people who have not undergone military training, including women, can become volunteers,” Khrenin said.
According to him, training courses are provided for volunteers:
We are able to teach people in a short period of time. Both when creating a people’s militia, and when creating in peacetime
At present, the pro-Russian regime of Belarus is preparing a “law” for the militia, in which it is planned to regulate the composition, number and their tasks. According to the document, people who have joined the ranks of the “people’s militia” will be placed at their place of residence and perform their labor functions. The composition of the “militia” is already being formed.
The main task for the people’s militia remains to protect, first of all, their home, their property and to carry out measures to ensure law and order together with the police … The people’s militia are volunteers who have come. We provide them with weapons, and they will carry out their task only at home. It will be led by the governor, the head of the district executive committee, the village council, together with representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. First of all, these are local police officers, Khrenin pointed out.
