The French leader said that he does not believe that Russia should be completely defeated, attacked on its territory.
France stands for the defeat of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, but never pursues a policy whose goal is to defeat Russia. This was said by French President Emmanuel Macron in a comment to the French media on the plane on the way from the Munich Security Conference, reports Le Figaro.
“I want Russia to defeat Ukraine, and I want Ukraine to defend its position, but I am convinced that in the end it will not end militarily. I do not believe, like some, that Russia should be completely defeated, attacked on its territory. First of all, they want to crush Russia. France has never taken such a position and never will,” Macron said.
He noted that some, especially in Eastern Europe, were taking a tougher stance and criticized him for his view that Russia should not be “embarrassed.”
“Now, Ukraine needs to lead a military offensive that will destroy the Russian front in order to provoke a return to negotiations,” Macron added.
At the same time, according to him, “no side can win” in this war – neither Ukraine nor Russia.
Recall that the day before, in a speech in Munich, Macron said that the Russian Federation “is not a country, but a mafia.”
