The US Secretary of State met with the Chinese Foreign Minister and discussed China’s intelligence balloons and warned of the consequences of Russian aid.
US State Department Secretary Anthony Blinken met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, February 18, the State Department’s press service said.
It was noted that Blinken said in the conversation that the flights of Chinese balloons in the sky of the United States should not be repeated and called their launches an irresponsible action. He also clarified that China’s high-altitude reconnaissance balloon program has been exposed.
The head of the State Department also warned his colleague about the consequences if China provides material support to Russia or help in avoiding systematic sanctions because of the war in Ukraine. The US Secretary of State also confirmed that US policy on China has not changed and stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
“The United States will compete and defend values and interests. At the same time, we do not want conflict with China and are not looking for a new cold war,” Blinken said at the meeting.
The Secretary of State also emphasized the importance of maintaining diplomatic dialogue and open lines of communication at all times.
It will be recalled that in early February, the US military shot down a Chinese balloon, which was considered a spy balloon.
As reported, the discovery of the wolf caused a diplomatic crisis, as a result of which US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken canceled a trip to China.
