The Ukrainian military is extremely quick to master the Patriot air defense system during an exercise in Germany.
Spiegel wrote about the success of the Ukrainians in the development of this air defense system. One of the commanders of the German Air Force involved in the training of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told the publication that the fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are very motivated and often have experience, so “everything happens faster than expected.”
Courses on the development of the Patriot air defense system for about 70 military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine began in early February in Germany. They continue at the Bundeswehr training ground, the location of which is not named for security reasons.
At the end of 2022, the United States announced the transfer of one battery of the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine as part of the December military assistance package. In early January of this year, the German government also decided to transfer this type of air defense system to Ukraine to protect against Russian air attacks. Also, the air defense of Ukraine will receive two launchers of the Patriot complex from the Netherlands.
Military writes that the MIM-104 Patriot is an American anti-aircraft missile system manufactured by a group of American companies led by Raytheon. The complex was created as a universal means of air defense at medium and high altitudes. Guidance of an anti-aircraft missile at an air target is carried out by control over a radio channel according to a ground-based radar signal reflected from the target.
This air defense complex is capable of hitting air targets at an altitude of up to 24.2 km, and its range depends on the type of anti-aircraft missiles and ranges from 50 to 160 km. Depending on the version of the air defense system, it can also fight ballistic missiles.
