The earthquakes that occurred on February 6 caused more than 3,000 aftershocks, increasing the number of damages and casualties.
The death toll in southeastern Turkey due to two earthquakes on February 6 is 35,418, the number of injured is 105,505, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, TASS reports.
Erdogan noted that search and rescue after the earthquakes in Turkey will continue until the last survivor is rescued.
“We will provide financial assistance in the amount of 100,000 lira to the relatives of those who died due to the earthquake for immediate needs,” promised the President of the country.
In addition, Erdogan said that the earthquakes that occurred on February 6 caused more than 3 thousand aftershocks, which increased the number of destruction and casualties.
The earthquakes with 3,170 aftershocks caused great destruction in our provinces, where 13 million people live. The destructive effect of the earthquake spread over an area of 500 km. These earthquakes produced the equivalent of hundreds of the most powerful atomic bombs. Some buildings that were damaged in the first earthquake collapsed in the second one,” the Turkish leader insisted.
It was noted that the earthquake of February 6 became the most destructive in the modern history of Turkey. The previous most destructive earthquake in Turkey occurred in 1939 near the city of Erzincan, after which almost 33 thousand people became victims of the disaster.
Turkish authorities plan to rebuild 30,000 houses in earthquake-affected regions in the first phase. The restoration processes, as mentioned by Erdogan, will begin in March.
It will be remembered that on February 6, two earthquakes with a magnitude of more than seven points occurred in the southeast of Turkey, which affected neighboring Syria.
It was previously known that during the earthquake in Turkey, a 46-year-old Ukrainian woman and her five- and ten-year-old sons died.
