The collective mechanisms for solving global problems do not meet the scale of the challenges, the UN Secretary General admitted.
Member States of the United Nations should prepare to produce an updated version of this. The secretary general of the organization, António Guterres, said this on the eve of his speech at a meeting of the UN General Assembly.
Thus, Guterres intends to prepare an analytical note on the vision of UN 2.0. In it, he promises to provide proposals on digital technologies, innovation, foresight and behavioral sciences, which should help support UN member states more effectively in the coming years. .
“It is not enough for the United Nations to have the right agenda. It needs the knowledge and experience to work with Member States to implement it. We need new skills, new experiences, new strategies and programs,” explained Guterres.
The UN Secretary General recognized that today’s collective mechanisms for solving global problems do not meet the scale of the challenges.
“The current forms of multilateral governance, developed in a past era, are clearly not suited to today’s complex, interconnected, rapidly changing and dangerous world. This year must be the year when we lay down the a foundation for more effective global cooperation that can meet today’s challenges, as well as the new risks and threats of the future,” Guterres added.
Recall that on December 26, 2022, the Ukrainian authorities began a comprehensive process aimed at excluding Russia from the UN Security Council and from the United Nations as a whole.
The media previously reported that the US Congress will consider a resolution to exclude Russia from the UN Security Council. It was introduced by two American lawmakers who head an independent government organization for human rights.
