The United States urged its citizens to leave Russia immediately

The US has urged its citizens to leave Russia immediately due to the war in Ukraine and the risk of arbitrary arrest or harassment by Russian law enforcement.

US citizens residing in or traveling in Russia should immediately leave its territory. Exercise extra caution due to the risk of wrongful detentions, the US Embassy in Moscow said in a statement.

Do not travel to Russia, the embassy called.

Washington has repeatedly warned its citizens to leave Russia. The last public warning came last September after dictator Vladimir Putin announced a partial mobilization.

Russian intelligence agencies are arresting US citizens on trumped-up charges, separating US citizens to Russia for detention and prosecution, denying them fair and transparent treatment, convicting them in secret trials or without providing credible evidence, the embassy said.

They also stressed that Russian authorities arbitrarily enforce local laws against U.S. citizen religious workers and opened dubious criminal investigations against U.S. citizens engaged in religious activities.
