Hundreds of thousands of people took part today, Sunday, in various demonstrations in Spain against privatization public health and demand that the regional authorities allocate sufficient resources to it as persons responsible for its administration. The main mobilization is marked on the main avenues Madrid.
In the Spanish capital, according to official figures, several 250,000 people – a million, according to the organizers – took part in the mobilization, convened by 74 public associations and received broad support from trade unions and leftist parties.
Demand the repeal of laws
Politics of the People’s Party’s conservative government Madrid It focuses “on guaranteeing the benefits of companies and healthcare lobbyists, instead of taking care of all people and guaranteeing our right to health,” the organizers denounce in the manifesto.
The demonstrators called for the repeal of laws that they say allow the privatization of healthcare, as well as more staff with “worthy and stable” contracts.
They assured that the “deterioration” of the Madrid health system in recent months has grown “exponentially” with an increase in the number of unfilled vacancies, unreliability primary health care services such as emergency care, and a lack of health infrastructure, as listed.
They also said they supported the doctors’ strike that began in December, organized by the health workers’ union.
Also in other regions
IN Santiago de Compostela, the capital of Galicia (northwest), several thousand people protested against the region’s conservative government’s health policy, convened by the SOS Public Health platform and supported by parties, unions and other organizations.
More than 50,000 demonstrators, and 22,000 according to local police, participated in the defense of quality public health and especially primary health care, according to organizers.
Similarly, they criticized the “budget cuts implemented by successive People’s Party governments” and the trend towards “privatization” of health care.
IN Burgos (North), about 11,000 people, police estimated, took to the streets to demand that the city’s university hospital be rebuilt for all public health services.
They also defended the value of public health and quality public primary health care in this city of Castile and León, a region also ruled by conservatives.
