The rocket attacks committed by the Russians today, February 10, led to the shutdown of one of the power units of the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant.
In addition, Rivne and South Ukrainian nuclear power plants were forced to reduce electricity production. This is stated in today’s report published on the IAEA website.
In the report, the IAEA refers to data received from the Ukrainian nuclear regulator – the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine (DIYaRU).
Today, the Ukrainian regulator informed the IAEA that two of the three operating nuclear power plants – Rivne and Yuzhnoukrainskaya – as a preventive measure, reduced the output of electricity, due to the instability of the power grid, one of the units of the Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant also stopped as a result of the shelling, the IAEA notes.
It is noted that this information was also confirmed by members of the IAEA missions at the Ukrainian stations. They also confirmed that all nuclear safety systems at the Khmelnitsky NPP were working properly.
In addition, according to the IAEA, DIYARU said that it would allow the resumption of electricity production at the Zaporizhzhya NPP only after it was returned under the control of Ukraine and safe working conditions were restored. All six ZNPP reactors are in cold or hot shutdown mode.
