In Russia today, February 10, a Crimean Jemil Gafarov died in the pre-trial detention center of the Russian Novocherkassk. He was illegally sentenced by Russia to 13 years in prison in the case of the Crimean Muslims.
The political prisoner had a chronic heart disease and needed medical assistance, which he was denied. This was reported on the Facebook page of the public association “Crimean Solidarity”.
In 2019, the invaders searched Gafarov’s house and arrested him. Even then, it was known about the chronic diseases of the political prisoner, and documents confirming his disability were repeatedly presented in court – Gafarov had chronic kidney failure and related heart diseases.
In 2017, prior to the initiation of criminal proceedings, he suffered a significant myocardial infarction. In the same year, he was diagnosed with chronic renal failure with impaired filtration of the kidneys. The political prisoner needed regular kidney dialysis, which was impossible to carry out in the conditions of the pre-trial detention center, the Crimean Solidarity notes.
So, an ambulance was called to Gafarov for several court hearings.
Despite the efforts of lawyers, the Russians continued to keep the sick political prisoner in a pre-trial detention center, where they did not provide proper medical care and refused hospitalization. In the end, due to long legal actions, Gafarov’s request was granted and placed in MOTB-19, but he did not receive proper medical care in the hospital.
In January, after the verdict was announced, the condition of 60-year-old Jemil Gafarov deteriorated sharply. He hardly got to his feet, complained of a burning pain in his chest – he needed emergency hospitalization with an examination, however, without receiving it, he left this world, the message says.
Gafarov is survived by his wife and three children.
