More than 20 Russian army generals have died since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
This is reported by the Japanese news agency Nikkei, referring to Japanese intelligence data obtained in cooperation with the United States and European countries.
According to one version cited by Nikkei, the Ukrainian army was able to reach the Russian generals by mobile phone signals. According to another version, informants from the Ukrainian side in the occupied regions of Donbass contributed to this, an unnamed senior Japanese intelligence official said.
In August 2022, British military intelligence said that at least 10 Russian generals had died during the war in Ukraine.
American experts suggested that in May 2022, heavy losses among the occupying generals could be partly explained by the transfer of intelligence data by the States to the Ukrainians. There is also speculation that Russian generals are forced to operate close enough to the front line, where the chances of being eliminated by the Ukrainian Resistance Forces are much higher.
The New York Times reported that the United States and other Western countries estimate that about 200,000 Russian troops were killed or injured during the Russian invasion.
The Russian Defense Ministry last reported its losses in September 2022. According to these data, 5,937 Russian soldiers were killed.
On February 9, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced that 135 thousand Russians had died since the beginning of the invasion.
