The American businessman will “retire” after a bad year for his business in 2022, Bloomberg notes.
Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is $12.5 billion richer. This is the largest one-day increase in his fortune, according to the Bloomberg news agency on Friday, February 3.
Zuckerberg is recovering from the worst year for his business.
As of September 2021, he is worth a whopping $142 billion. However, the following year was not the best for him: in February 2022, he lost $31 billion in one day, then gained $11 billion in April, and lost another $11 billion in October after another disappointing Meta income report.
Zuckerberg is currently worth $69.8 billion. This makes him the 13th richest person in the world, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Investors rejoice after Meta’s latest financial results. The November cut of 11,000 jobs, or 13% of the workforce, was “just the beginning” of his optimization plans, Zuckerberg said.
The previous day, the company also won a court case against the Federal Trade Commission to block the company’s purchase of a startup in the field of virtual reality.
On Thursday, Feb. 2, Meta shares rose 23.3%, joining several other technology companies whose shares rose in price.
As we have already written, the media reported that Meta is preparing a large reduction in employees. These layoffs will be the first mass staff reductions in the company’s history.
