The Russian authorities are using the continuation of the “terrorist-level” regime on Russian territory to strengthen law enforcement measures, provide support for their actions in Ukraine, present the war as a direct threat to internal security, and suppress “internal dissent”. This opinion was expressed by experts from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Russian officials continue to implement an information operation that the war in Ukraine is a direct threat to Russian security through legislative manipulation. Thus, on February 3, the Bryansk and Kursk regions announced the prolongation of the “yellow” level of terrorist threat for an indefinite period due to “the need to strengthen measures to protect and defend Russian territory.”
The ISW report also indicated that the administration of US President Joe Biden announced on Feb. 3 a new $2.2 billion military aid package to Ukraine that includes long-range precision-guided missiles for HIMARS.
At the same time, Russian war criminal dictator Vladimir Putin continued to provide a platform for critical nationalist war bloggers while suppressing “opposition voices.”
