Russia is desperately trying to use puppets to evade sanctions, the US Treasury Department said.
The US Treasury Department has announced new sanctions against the aggressor state Russia. Several individuals and legal entities are included in the “black list”, according to the agency’s website on Wednesday, February 1.
The new restrictions target 22 individuals and entities in several countries that helped Russia evade previous sanctions.
“Russia’s desperate attempt to use puppets to evade US sanctions shows that sanctions have made it harder and more expensive for the Russian military-industrial complex to continue supplying Putin’s military machine,” said by Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo.
In particular, the “black list” includes companies from Bulgaria, Israel, Cyprus, Latvia and Singapore. They are related to electronic computing equipment, defense development, trade and construction.
In addition, the arms dealer from Russia and Cyprus, Igor Zimenkov and his son Jonathan, were sanctioned. They used shell companies to pay for projects related to Russia’s defense industry.
The Ministry of Finance added that from now on, all assets owned by these individuals and businesses in the United States or under the control of American representatives are blocked.
“In addition, any organizations that are directly or indirectly owned by one or more blocked persons by 50 percent or more are also blocked,” the department added.
Recall that 17 more prominent Russians were added to the US sanctions list within a week. In addition, more than 500 Russian military men fell under visa restrictions.
